P 365 day 68: Shipping

Alkmaar has always been a shipping city, as I mentioned in a post last week, a big portion of modern Alkmaar was once the harbor of a large lake. A lot of buildings in the city center are a few hundred years old, so they still have the large garage type doors and hooks used for loading goods onto ships. Anyway, I was just about to cross a bridge when this big ship decided it was going to come through, This area of Alkmaar seems to be the new shipping area, there are a lot of buildings that have cranes and such next to the canals. I've gotten used to waiting for boats though (nothing big enough to be called a ship ever comes through Alkmaar, more barges) since I cross a canal every day that I go to school. I really enjoy the diversity of the region I live in. :)
